your resume

Establish your network of collaborators

NTI is the perfect launchpad into the world of professional theater. It arms you with the skills, confidence, and theatrical experience necessary to either pursue a life in theater, or get into an acclaimed college theater program.

If you’re not quite sure if college is the right choice for you or whether you’d like to invest in four years of training at a collegiate level, NTI might be the perfect nextstep. NTI is structured conservatory-style, meaning you will learn how to succeed in an intensive, interdisciplinary schedule that is more rigorous and hands on than your average liberal arts program.

Your other classmates (a lot of whom are in college) become your collaborators, friends, and your first line to creating new work after your semester ends. Not only do the faculty at NTI give you one-of-a-kind individual training for the semester, they will also challenge you to meet your fullest potential as an artist, collaborator and individual. You will meet over 60 professional contacts working in places like New York City, LA, Chicago, and London, who will help you understand how to work in the industry.

While taking a gap semester or year with NTI, you will be considered a college freshman and will earn undergraduate credits, transferable to major US colleges and universities.

Frequently asked questions

WHERE HAVE GAP YEAR STUDENTS GONE ON TO COLLEGE?

If you know you want to pursue theater in college, our training will give you the extra push you need to confidently audition for college programs with a newfound sense of self and direction (plus transferable undergraduate credits). Gap year students at NTI have gone on to study at institutions such as Stanford University, Yale University, New York University, and Brandeis University, among many others. Attending NTI as a gap year student will provide you with a conservatory level readiness to enter the nation’s top BA or BFA programs. Spending a semester or a year with NTI will allow you to hone your skills and determine your focus, preparing you for a successful college audition season. Some students choose to attend NTI instead of a traditional four-year college experience. These students spend their time at NTI in deep study focusing on becoming ready to go directly into the industry.

WILL I BE YOUNGER THAN MOST STUDENTS?

We believe age is not a factor if you want to seriously pursue a career theater so we don’t see it as an advantage or disadvantage. As an NTI student, you will not be overlooked if you are younger. Your talents will not be underutilized at NTI due to the size of your ensemble and your faculty member’s investment in you as an individual. We accept 30-50 students per semester in order to ensure your fullest potential for transformation and for individualized attention. If you have trouble adjusting to a college-level schedule, or are struggling to work with your ensemble at some point, please let us know. We have staff onsite who will work with you to improve your personal well-being and ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.

CAN I TALK TO A GAP-YEAR ALUM?

Certainly! We believe it’s important for you to hear from someone who has completed the NTI experience as a gap-year student. Please let us know you’d like to talk to a gap-year alum, and we’re more than happy to put you in touch with one of our recruiters.
